Christiano Ronaldo scored his 39th Real Madrid hat-trick that gave Real Madrid a comfortable 3-0 win over Simeone’s Atlético Madrid in the Madrid Derby.
This hat-trick came at a perfect time for many reasons. Ronaldo had not scored on his five previous visits to the Calderon. The treble took him to a combined total of 352 Premier League and La Liga goals. The Portuguese star’s hat-trick also took him beyond Alfredo Di Stéfano- no player had previously scored as many Madrid derby goals, which now stands at 18.
The win over Atlético Madrid took Zinedine Zidane’s side, unbeated in 29 games, 9 points clear of Atlético Madrid in the Spanish La Liga, 4 points above Barcelona in the La Liga table
Last week, the 31-year old Portuguese star also celebrated signing a new long-term contract that will keep him at Real Madrid until 2021. With few days remaining until voting for the 2016 Ballon D’Or closes, the hat-trick will surely boost the star’s chances.
